Award winning artist Jef Sturm of Pawleys Island S.C. will be conducting a one-day workshop for Waterway Art Association on Saturday, January 21, 2017, from 10 AM to 4PM.
The workshop is entitled “Nature’s Grays” and will be held at Bellinger Artworks Studio located at 283B Koolabrew Dr. in Calabash, N.C.
Jef Sturm is a graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Art where he received his degree in graphic design and fine art. He has spent most of his life drawing & painting and was the owner of a graphic design business. He demonstrates, exhibits and sells his work at Brookgreen Garden in Pawleys Island, South Carolina, The Seacoast Artists Guild in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina ,the GrayMan Gallery in Pawleys Island, South Carolina, and the Spencer Gallery in Charleston, South Carolina.
Working from his own photographic compositions, Jef’s approach to painting is to “Capture the quality of light as it exists in a
solitary moment.” He has taught oil painting for the Georgetown Cultural Council. He is currently teaching painting for Coastal Carolina University OLLI Program, Life Drawing for Seacoast Artists Guild, as well as privately.
This workshop is designed to help the student discover the multitude of gray colors that exist in nature. These colors are very apparent when you start looking for them while understanding how to see and recognize them. The workshop will be divided into a two-hour morning session from 10am to 12 noon. An hour for lunch, then commencing in the afternoon from 1pm until 4pm.  In the morning session there will be a pictorial lecture to explain the color theory of grays, and how they will help the student create more harmonious and natural color in their paintings. The remainder of the morning will be devoted to color mixing, to help the student realize their abilities to mix any color they desire. In the afternoon session, the student will have three hours to create a painting using the color theories studied in the morning. This workshop will be a great help on your journey to become a better artist.
