Sunset Vision Group presents the first Sunset Beach Nature & Wildlife Art Show in June 2017
As part of its efforts to procure a commercial-grade bird and wildlife viewing binocular, Sunset Vision hosts its first nature and wildlife art show and sale June 22-24, with a fundraising reception on Friday, June 23rd at 7011 Beach Drive, Ocean Isle Beach, NC.
On Friday, June 23nd at 6:00 p.m., Sunset Vision, a nonprofit organization committed to enriching the community by funding and maintaining amenities and features that promote nature, education, enjoyment, and accessibility in the Sunset Beach community, invites the public to attend an opening reception for the first Sunset Beach Nature & Wildlife Art Show & Sale at Triple D’s Hemi Haven, a private classic car showroom. All proceeds from the show benefit the organization’s efforts to purchase a commercial-grade bird binocular to be installed at the Bird Walk on Shoreline Drive West.
“The binocular will be free to use and accessible for all, including children and those will disabilities,” explains Melissa Warren, Sunset Vision board member. “It has two viewing ports, a high-powered optic to see birds and wildlife twenty times closer, with a broad panoramic view. We want to enhance the Sunset Beach experience for residents and visitors alike, and inspire people of all ages to appreciate and protect our natural environment and its inhabitants.”
The art showcases the beauty of Sunset Beach’s wildlife and natural surroundings and the diverse creative talents of local and regional artists. In addition to the reception on Friday, art can also be viewed on Thursday, June 22, 2017 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm and on Saturday, June 24, 2017 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.
The choice of venue was a conscious effort to showcase the intersection of expressive arts with industrial design, where both classic car and wildlife enthusiasts value conservation and preservation. Doug and Christine Dressler, the owners of the private showroom, have graciously offered the use of their space for the event. Attendees will experience the cultural, ecological, nostalgic, and personal dimensions of art among cars in a museum-inspired setting.
Sunset Vision is offering monetary awards to the winning artists. Judging the show are two talented Brunswick County artists, Mary Zio, a contemporary abstract artist and owner of Phthalo Blue Art Gallery in Ocean Isle Beach, and Jan Epstein, an artist in many mediums including lithography, ceramic sculpture, and watercolor. “We are thrilled to have both Mary and Jan judge our show,” says Ms. Warren. “We know the importance of recognizing talent and supporting the arts in our community, as well as creating economic opportunities.” Guests are encouraged to vote for their favorite artist in the show for a People’s Choice Award.
