San Miguel Group # 3 036 (1280x960)Born in 1943 to naturalized Canadian parents in Washington, DC,John grew up in Short Hills, NJ and graduated from The Pingry School, Kenyon College, and Middlebury College. After two years working at Taft School in Watertown, CT, three years in the U.S. Army (Vietnam), and forty years at Kent School in Kent, CT sequentially as an English teacher, Military Intelligence Operative, Director of Admissions, and Director of Development, he retired with his wife Bonnie to Southport in 2009. While, in an on-going battle with thyroid cancer, he was saddened to lose his lifelong love of singing to a total laryngopharyngectomy. He,nonetheless, feels that he has been blessed to discover a new and perhaps even greater passion: watercolor painting. So “Late but in earnest” (as his family motto states),he has developed an abiding love for what he describes as “this inspiring and ever-challenging medium and have benefited immeasurably from the wonderful mentoring of Rusty Hughes and Dick Staat.”
