The Oak Island Art Guild will welcome Rachel Jones, an award-winning, international painter born in South Carolina, to lead their May 12 workshop at the Oak Island Recreation Center.
Jones uses selective realism often to convey her message. Her images are quiet. There is a mystery that exists within her paintings. When not painting the figure, she focuses on a series of florals. “Often flower paintings can be perceived as saccharine, however, there is a beauty and pleasure derived from nature. I try to approach it in such a way that there is an atmosphere and personality beyond just the still life”
Acrylics and possibly watercolor will be used in slightly different ways to achieve “Free Flowing Florals”.  The goal will be not to create a hyper-realistic painting, but rather unique, expressive, and translucent floral. With this experimental approach combined with traditional methods, this workshop designed for beginners to advanced painters will prove to be an informative and fun addition in your creative journey.
The workshop will follow a short 9 a.m. business meeting.  It is offered free of charge and visitors over 18 are welcome. Please check the guild website for a complete supply list and more information.  OIAG workshops are partially funded by a grant from the Brunswick Arts Council.
