THE ARTS COUNCIL NAMES 12 REGIONAL ARTISTS

Wilmington, NC – December 10, 2018 – A dozen Regional Artists have been named in a competitive grant awarded annually to exceptional artists in the four-county area.     “We are pleased to recognize this year’s Regional Artists and to provide a total of $11,576 for professional development projects which will have a demonstrable impact on their artistic careers,”  said Rhonda Bellamy, executive director of the Arts Council of Wilmington & NHC. The Regional Artist Project grant is administered by the Arts Council of Wilmington/NHC, in partnership with the North Carolina Arts Council and arts partners in Brunswick, Pender and Columbus counties.   Please see attached photos.  2018-2019 Regional Artist Project Grantees

Diego Camposeco – $1000 – Visual – Pender County – Purchase an Epson Perfection V850 Pro Photo Scanner to create anthotypes, images made from the photosynthetic materials of plants.

Julia Jensen – $550 – Visual – New Hanover County – Complete rebuild of an oxygen concentrator used in lampwork/beadmaking.

Sarah Jones – $1000 – Visual – Brunswick County – Framing for 20 portraits in “Celebrating Connections with People of Color” exhibition.

Kirstin O’Malley – $1000 – Visual – New Hanover County – Purchase of a kiln.

Dana Sachs – $1000 – Literary – New Hanover County – Travel to Greece for research for “A Drop in the Sea: Refugees on the Threshold of Europe”

Julianne Scott – $1000 – Visual – New Hanover County – Two-week workshop titled “The Alchemy of Sculpture” in Richmond, VA taught by the founder of the Sculpture Department at the Florence Academy of Art in Italy.

John Sullivan – $1000 – Literary – New Hanover County – Rent for studio to serve as an incubator/documentary institute.

Sheena Vaught – $1000 – Filmmaking – Brunswick County – Purchase of a laptop with sufficient RAM to operate filmmaking software.

Peggy Vineyard – $1000 – Visual – New Hanover County – Abstract Painting Immersion Workshop at the Atlantic Center for the Arts in New Smyrna Beach, FL.

Melanie Walter – $1000 – Visual – New Hanover County – Purchase of an additional building to house ceramic kilns

Sara Westermark – $1026 – Visual – New Hanover County – Materials to create an enameled torso of scale armor.

Melissa Wilgis – $1000 – Visual – New Hanover County – Purchase supplies for making photograms, shadowlike photographic images made by placing objects between light-sensitive paper and a light source.

Total:  $11,576
