Carolina Soul Festival Challenges Artists to submit your interpretation of this day-long event of engagement, education, entertainment, and empowerment for consideration to be named the 2016 Commemorative Poster.
Calabash, NC / Carolina Soul Festival is excited to announce the inaugural Commemorative Poster contest. In its first year, Carolina Soul Festival will take place on Saturday, September 10, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The mission of the festival is to encourage a culture of wellness and respect for the earth in our community through an awareness of health, nutrition, fitness, relaxation, art, music, and mental attitudes. To help us capture the spirit of the festival, we are seeking submissions of artwork that embody the concepts of engagement, education, entertainment, and empowerment to guide families and individuals to take actions and make choices to become their healthiest and happiest selves. Artists will create an original work for consideration as the official commemorative poster artist.
“The Southeast is home to some amazingly talented professional artists,” says Melissa Warren, a Carolina Soul Festival coordinator. “We can’t wait to see what beautiful concepts come in to help us honor this first-ever event of its kind in our community.”
The Carolina Soul Festival Commemorative Poster Contest is open to all artists 18 years of age and older. Artists may submit original two-dimensional painting. The winning painting will be used to produce official commemorative posters, which will be available for sale during the festival. The original painting will be auctioned off during a silent auction at the festival. The artist will receive 50% of the auction price. The other 50% will be donated to Community Movement Alliance, Inc., a non-profit organization that encourages the voices, minds, and futures of South Brunswick County’s marginalized youth and their families for the purpose of personal transformation through movement-based education in the disciplines of dance, martial arts, and the practice of yoga.
In addition, Carolina Soul Festival will offer a monetary award to the winning artist. “We are excited to award a prize at our inaugural event,” says Ms. Warren. “Our hope is that the contest will provide recognition and encouragement for local and regional artists.” The winning commemorative poster artwork will be selected by a panel of festival coordinators in conjunction with professional, local artists.
Deadline for completed works to Carolina Soul Festival headquarters is August 4, 2016. Submissions can be dropped off between August 1-4, 2016. Full submittal requirements are available at www.carolinasoulfestival.com. For questions, contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
